Wild Week at Winter Music Conference 2010

Miami! Miami! Miami! I just spent a wild week at Winter Music Conference 2010, quite possibly the world’s largest gathering ever of electronic music fans, freaks and friends in the flashy city of blingy blue ocean waves, lazy palm trees, slick star-scrapers and an energy level almost as high as the dance floor.

A week-long cavalcade of party after party after rave after boat after beach after pool after rooftop, WMC is most definitely a one-of-a-kind experience that every electronic music lover should experience at least once before you go to meet the great beatmaker in the sky.

I am packed and ready to dance upon the sacred playground in Miami! When I’m stopped at LAX for a “random search” yet again, the TSA will get to rifle through the following items in my bag:

  • Mullet
  • Water wings
  • Inflatable frog
  • Purple plastic fanny pack
  • Jar of 100 earplugs
  • Mentos
  • One bag of jellybeans, crème-filled Hershey’s kisses & chocolate-covered malted eggs
  • One bag of Twizzlers
  • One more bag of assorted candy bars and chocolates
  • Approximately one shit ton of Emergen-C
  • Seven bikinis
  • Hundreds and hundreds of flyers
  • Drew Best’s prescription glow-in-the-dark raver glasses
  • Rainbow hologram glasses
  • Package of glow bracelets (HEY I’M GOING TO ULTRA BOTH DAYS OKAY?!?)
  • Three-season sleeping bag – because you just never fucking know

…and a bag of chips

You want your glow to come from the inside, not from irreversible skin damage cause by the sun.

You want your glow to come from the inside, not from irreversible skin damage caused by the sun.

Take advantage of your time in Miami to experience as much as possible: do it up, do it right and do it all. However one thing you don’t want to do at Winter Music Conference is act like a tourist who showed up without a single clue and is just begging to get punked by shiesters, sun rays and sloppy drunkenness. Here are ten things to avoid doing at all costs unless you want to look like a Winter Music Conference NOOB:

Get SLIPPERY in Miami: THE ONLY Glitch Hop Show of WMC 2010: Mochipet, Fresh2Death, S.P.E.C.T.R.E, PrEssHa & more!

Oh I have been dying to announce this show!

Winter Music Conference is known for a lot of fast-flung trance and progressive untz-untz, without too many options on the other end of the spectrum. Ultra Music Festival has booked some mad bass talent like the Glitch Mob and Bassnectar; however outside of the giant rave you are going to have a hard time finding any filthy glitchy whomp.

Luckily for lovers of the low end, SLIPPERY presented by Miami Glitch will be there to bring the bass, featuring heaps of fresh crunk talent from all over the United States.

Loveable freakazoid Mochipet of Daly City Records headlines the party and we also have Fresh2Death from the Denver Bass Squad featuring Ben Samples and Greg Fisk. Adding to the lineup is one of my favorite mixmasters S.P.E.C.T.R.E. and one of my best friends who destroys dance floors everywhere he goes, PrEssHa. Supported by GlitchFM, Slippery is also a showcase of some of the DJ talent that regularly plays on the station, including HipGnosis, Stutterfly and Afro Monk, with locals Munkz, Gooddroid and MC Farfetched rounding things out.

Slippery goes down Saturday March 27 from 10PM to 5AM at Club Cinema upstairs located at 637 Washington Avenue. We will have drink specials all night long and the cover is free with RSVP to Stay tuned on DF5K for all the details and click here for the Facebook event page.
