THIRDSDAZE in Seattle: New BASS MUSIC Crunkthly @ Rebar

Posted in Events, Music News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 14, 2009 by worldromper

HEAR YE HEAR YE BITCHES!

Seattle’s got a new night of future sound bass music (don’t call it midtempo) happening every third Thursday at Rebar starting in June: Thirdsdaze. I like the name because when you say it, you sound like you are already half drunk.

This new night of crunkedouthyphyfunkadelicpsybrokenwhomphopmusicforbasssluts is brought to you by the same party kids who do the whompcast over at dirtyfilthywhomp.com, Rockit Science – aka my people. Besides the best in forward-thinking bass music and sticky grime, Thirdsdaze will also feature live painting, digital art, and performances. And parties in the parking lot.

The new monthly kicks off June 18 with Propa Tingz (BreakBeatBuddha), PrEssHa, Dirty Steve and Northstar at the Rebar, my favorite dance club in Seattle which has just upgraded its sound system to stellar reviews. The July 16 lineup is super fat as well and includes ill-esha, Zacharia, Aksion and Kat1lyst.

Head over to RocketScience.com and listen to the free downloadable whompcasts to get an idea of what kind of sounds you will hear at what will no doubt be the freshest music monthly in Seattle: THIRDSDAZE.

UPDATE: I will be at the opening night of Thirdsdaze on June 18th! See you on the dance floor, Seattle! I am so excited!

Seattle. REBAR. Tonight! NALEPA, Sleepyhead, Noisemaker, Woo & Northstar

The astrological Age of Aquarius already dawned about nine years ago but screw it, like you can see the stars on a winter night in Seattle anyway! Come say happy birthday to sweetheart Jessica Rabbit and all the other January babies tonight AND experience the best music in town, no question.

Northstar, otherwise known as the bad-ass glassblower, starts off the evening with his brand of bass which I last enjoyed with a big smile on my face around 9AM one rainy morning. He is followed by Woo, or Andrew Luck, who has already been hailed as the new people’s favorite in Seattle by several dancing freaks. He laid down a set at a New Year’s Eve after after after party that made my head swim and my knees bend down to the floor, again and again.

You all know what I think of Noisemaker who with some help from a fabulous writer and promoter has pioneered the crunkedouthyphyfunkadelicpsybrokenwhomphopmusicforbasssluts sound in Seattle and is currently earning my heart by using some crazy island beats from the South Pacific mixed in with dirty dubstep from the streets of London. His disparate (yet never random) track selection always excites the dance floor; he throws shit down that no one else can get away with, earning him a bold and fearless reputation. Noisemaker does what Noisemaker wants. This kid loves what he does to the crowd, and why not? He does it so well.

Sleepyhead is also a favorite of mine and hails from the Bay Area and I encourage you to click this sentence and listen to some of the fatty tracks on his Myspace page right now. Yeah that’s right! I’m rockin’ out myself this morning and had to take just a little break from this post to get down and dance around my living room for a bit. FEKKING FELTHY.

Rounding out the birthday evening so very nicely out of all this talent is my favorite of all, headliner Steve Nalepa who you may have heard at the Native State Showcase at the 2008 Decibel Festival, a.k.a. one of the best weekends of your year. Steve is from my new hometown of LA and this wave-maker has just completed a tour around the western US with Bass Science, his collaboration with Tokyo-based Matt B. Nalepa is part of a loose-knit group of live mad scientists and future freaks down here in Los Angeles who are changing the evolution of music with each beat they drop; what they are doing now is affecting what the masses will be listening and dancing to in five years. His sound however is like no other, beautifully designed and intelligently assembled, all with plenty of fertile bass guaranteed to make you shake your ass, lift your soul, and down those shitty drinks at Rebar like there’s no tomorrow.

And when you’re the birthday girl, that’s exactly how you should party!

Happy Birthday Ms. Rabbit! Somebody buy her a drink for me! Nah, how about EVERYBODY just get your ASS on the DANCE FLOOR for me and try not to spend all night in the three thousand car parties in the parking lot. Hey I’ve been to the Rebar once or twice!

Have fun and enjoy the night of future sound in the 206!

Going Down This Week (Nov 24-30)

Your weekly list of Shilo-approved electronic music events in Seattle:

Most of you are probably making Thanksgiving plans, driving to see the family, gathering friends around to eat pie and shit. Whatever. Have fun with your lame-ass holiday.

For the rest of us to whom the holidays mean nothing, guess what? It is time to party. Here:

Tuesday:

  • Naha Army at the Grotto (the basement of the Rendezvous in Belltown): bring your arms and your legs and party with Naha, MC Anton Bomb, Break 6, Mickey Procon aka Cory Popcorn, and lots of art! FREE!
  • VIBE at Contour with BANGIN’ TECHNO from Travis B, Ctrl_Alt_Dlt, pantycontrol, and Michito
  • M83 at Neumos- Electropop francais. All the music nerds will be here, gazing at their shoes.

Wednesday (Thanksgiving Eve!):

  • Kraak and Smaak at the Nectar bring one of the Netherland’s hottest acts to Fremont. Hot and sweaty.
  • Chilled-out dance church at the Church of Bass
  • GOBBLE ON DEEZ has a horrible name and even worse flyer (both no doubt dreamed up by some one with a y chromosome), but it is in the sweet new underground venue with two huge rooms in SoDo I have been hearing so much about. There are about 20 DJs but I am looking forward to Zacharia, Rob Noble, Manahan, Goner, Pressha, Noisemaker, and Northstar. $10, BYOB

Thursday:

  • Midtempo Madness: FREE glitch hop and crazy mid tempo shit at the Crimson C. NOTE: this is the last Thursday or any day you should ever go to Crimson C. They backed out on us for the use of their venue 1.5 weeks before our show IN TEXT. Bullshit business practices and you should no longer support this bar EVER. After Thursday.

Friday: LYNZIE’S BIRTHDAY!

  • Herbaliser at Nectar performing as full live band, Sun Tzu Sound opens.
  • Analog at Rebar: Deep House from Deep Space. Househeads rejoice.

Saturday:

  • Zacharia and Rob Noble at Onset, if ya missed ’em at Gobble on Deez

  • KiloWatts and Vibesquad in Bellingham

(I am torn between staying in town for the bomb shows here or heading up to Bellingham and am still undecided!)
Friday:

  • Shadow Dancer of Boys Noize at Chop Suey. Bangin’ hard techno.
  • Shift Dubstep at Contour with D’Code from the UK

Saturday:

  • Afterhours at the Clubhouse with Funk D’Void, Dave Pezzner, and Carlos Mendoza of Lawnchair Generals- $5. I will be here too no doubt.
