New Album from Seekae +DOME

Posted in LISTEN TO THIS, Music News with tags , on October 12, 2011 by dancefever5000

Australian group Seekae will release their new album +DOME in the U.S. on November 1, and will be heading over the water to play several shows at CMJ as well as a performance on the West Coast at world-renowned club night Low End Theory. Like long-lost beat brethren, Seekae’s sound is a lush and beautiful fusion of experimental electronica, hip hop and “other” (read a review in Resident Advisor here), and +DOME is one of those releases you hit “repeat” on again and again.

In anticipation of their U.S. album release date, Seekae has given us a new bonus track “SIR” which can be found right here on the Los Angeles Times.

New MOCHIPET Album “Chicxulub” – Free MP3 on XLR8R

Posted in Album News & Reviews, Events, Music News with tags , , , on August 8, 2011 by dancefever5000

Mochipet drops a new album CHICXULUB next Tuesday August 16 on STS9′s 1320 Records, a melody-driven romp through a dinosaur dreamworld whose fun energy will be welcomed on dance floors all over – and good thing, because Mochipet sets off on a tour throughout the US in September, beginning with the Burn.

XLR8R has posted the first single off the album for free download, “Yoshi’s Dinosaur Egg Hunt,” calling it “an energetic slice of epic beat work that matches videogame-style arpeggiators (check the title) along with an over-powering breakbeat and a healthy dose of low-end rumble.”

New Dubstep Weekly: HEAVY Launches Thursday, June 23 @ Echoplex

Posted in Events, Music News with tags , , , , , on June 11, 2011 by dancefever5000

It’s hard to believe that with the undeniable upsurge in popularity that dubstep has experience in the past few years that there is no weekly dubstep night in Los Angeles.

That’s all about to change with the launch of HEAVY, an all-dubstep night on the east side at the Echoplex which will take place every Thursday. This new event is 18+, the cover is $10 and with the big capacity of the Echoplex, should be a rightful banger.

Resident DJs will be local legend 6Blocc, as well as Daddy Kev and DJ Nobody of Low End Theory fame. Special guests will perform every week, and word on the street is that some pretty big names are lined up to play the first several weeks of events.

Find more information on the HEAVY Facebook event page, and follow HEAVY on Twitter for all the late-breaking updates about this new weekly event.

Rock Boxx Tour: Z-Trip, De La Soul, Nosaj Thing & Daddy Kev

Posted in Events, Music News with tags , , , , on June 4, 2011 by dancefever5000

It’s a short and sweet summer tour for Z-Trip with De La Soul, Nosaj Thing and Daddy Kev, who hit up three cities on three dates:

July 29 – Chicago – Congress

August 19 – LA – Hollywood Palladium

August 20 – San Francisco – Warfield

Z-Trip is always a blast; the audience almost holds its breath to see what crazy track he’ll throw down next, and when it splashes down the wake knocks the dance floor’s heads back, all smiling and swimming on the foam of his eclectic mashups. De La Soul is a trio of pioneers when it comes to avant-rap, Nosaj Thing is one of the most popular electronic acts to come out of LA recently and Daddy Kev, well, Daddy Kev runs shit.

Tickets for the LA event are on sale now for $25.

Identity Festival: New Touring Electronic Music Festival

Posted in Events, Festivals, Music News with tags on April 29, 2011 by dancefever5000

Identity Festival is a new electronic music festival that will take place across N. America this year with approximately 20 stops.

I doubt all those names are playing every show but I am excited to see who swings by So Cal! I hope they add some unexpected, up-and-coming names to the lineup – there are some EXCELLENT selections in there but almost all are familiar on the festival circuit.

Dance in the Desert at Joshua Tree Music Festival May 13-15

Posted in Events, Festivals, Music News with tags , on April 6, 2011 by dancefever5000

The antidote to mega-festival overload (or wallet crunch) is the 9th annual Joshua Tree Music Festival, taking place this year from May 13-15 in Joshua Tree, California.

I have always heard really great things about this desert festival, which is a community, non-corporate event that combines camping and a wide variety of dance music with yoga workshops, art installations and a global market.

And here’s the best part: it’s in the shadows of Joshua Tree National Park – so expect golden sunsets, a purple mountain  backdrop, dazzling star carpets and the all-freeing spirit of the desert.

The performers, like the community, are an eclectic bunch:

“This yearʼs line up of dance-inducing artists includes the soulful, electrifying desert blues of Maliʼs Vieux Farka Toure, the beloved baritone of vibemaster Chali 2NA (of Jurassic 5 fame); Brooklyn funk maestros The Pimps of Joytime; the pan-Latin madness of Miami’s Loco Por Juana; the soul stirring singer songwriter Sean Hayes; Rubblebucketʼs gleeful electro-Afrobeat; Korean-Australian multi-instrumentalist Saritah; and the afro- latin-space-dub ensemble Jeremy Soleʼs Musaics (featuring member of Antibalas and Quantic Soul Orchestra). Full line-up, schedule, and festival info at http://www.joshuatreemusicfestival.com/.”

Tickets are only $100 to the three day event, which is a few hours drive from LA. Check out some photos below, and click here to buy tickets!
