Outliers, Vol. I: Iceland – Live Audio/Visual Show with Deru, Shigeto, Sweatson Klank & Loscil July 10 at Lincoln Hall in Chicago
Posted in Events with tags chicago, deru, loscil, outliers, scenic studios, shigeto, Sweatson Klank on June 25, 2012 by dancefever5000Celebrating the release of travel documentary Outliers Vol. 1: Iceland, this unique audio/visual event at Lincoln Hall features multimedia performances by several cutting-edge electronic music producers, including Deru with Scenic, Shigeto, Sweatson Klank and Loscil.
With dramatic landscapes born from volcanic eruptions and a countryside carved out by glaciers, Iceland is a mountainous island of desolate beauty, ancient Viking lore and raw nature: unpolluted and inspiring.
In October 2011 with support from a successful Kickstarter campaign, Chicago film collective Scenic traveled to the remote Icelandic countryside alongside photographers Tim Navis + Kim Holtermand and music composer Deru. With a goal to create a series of improvised, collaborative short films, the group documented their experiences with the stark landscape, cultural traditions and Icelanders encountered along the way.
The resulting full-length documentary – entitled Outliers, Vol. I: Iceland – will be released in June 2012, along with a companion soundtrack compilation featuring thirteen contemporary classical composers and electronic music producers.
To celebrate the release, Scenic will join Deru onstage one evening only for a live, multimedia A/V performance inspired by the journey. Soundtrack contributors Shigeto (Ghostly International), Loscil (Kranky), and Sweatson Klank (Alpha Pup) will perform full sets.
The first 200 ticket holders who arrive are invited to an exclusive live screening of the film and Q&A session with the artists in advance of the show.
Presale tickets to the event cost $20 and are available here: http://www.lincolnhallchicago.com/Shows/07-10-2012+Outliers+Vol+I+Iceland

Posted in Events with tags Babylon System, expansion, jeremy sole, jonwayne, samiyam on February 12, 2012 by dancefever5000On February 24 EXPANSION returns to Hummingbird Ranch with a lineup of grimy electronic beats and dark bass music, part of an entire evening of entertainment that also includes live painting and art installations, fire performers, acrobats and all sorts of surprises – all under the stars.
SAMIYAM of the Brainfeeder clan has garnered an international following for his shifty, slouchy, street-infused beats that sound like concrete smashing through a dirty window. KCRW’s king dance DJ Jeremy Sole plays with a mosaic of musical sounds, and Babylon System dishes out a thick and aggressive brand of California dubstep. An MC and producer with an ear for unexpected hooks, LA local Jonwayne rounds out the lineup.
EXPANSION is a unique celebration of the artistic community of the West Coast and takes place outdoors at Hummingbird Ranch, with two stages and multiple food and beverage options. Explore a live art and painting gallery and get funky with the wandering performers, fire twirlers, face painting and more.
Review in LA Music Blog of Expansion Vol. VII:
In reality, it was more like a festival in the truest sense of the word. Artists worked in tandem on paintings in one corner while thumping techno was spinning in another small room. Spaces were regularly cleared on the dance floor for short performances from scantily clad acrobats and fire breathers. This was a night in which you could grab food, help yourself to a drink, and get your face painted in the space of a quarter hour if you were so inclined. It was a true celebration of artistic expression, a creative utopia which doubled up as a terrific night out. It was, for a recent addition to the city, the kind of night that makes you glad you moved to Los Angeles.

Tonight: Day of the Dead feat. Nobody, Computer Jay, Knxwledge + Special Guest FROM HELL
Posted in Events on November 1, 2011 by dancefever5000Day of the Dead feat. DJ Nobody, Computer Jay, KNXWLEDGE, Alter, PBDY, plus “A Visitor From Hell” at Center for the Arts Eagle Rock TONIGHT!
8:30pm, $5 - All Ages
Center for the Arts Eagle Rock, 2225 Colorado Blvd. LA, CA 90041
The idea for this Day of the Dead event was inspired by the Mexican holiday “Dia de los Muertos”- a day to remember friends and family members who have passed before us. This event is a modern spin off the traditional ceremony, meant to infuse the new beat scene and all of it’s music, art and culture with a long-standing cultural tradition.
Paying respect to LA’s cultural heritage and looking towards the future, we offer this night as an homage to all musicians who have passed on, and who so deeply inspired this new generation of beat-makers, producers, and music enthusiasts.
DJs and beat-makers will mix their own new music with that of those who passed and who influenced them most. Photo booth & calavera face painting will also be available inside!
In honor of the dead and in celebration of life.
